City of Sultan issued the following announcement on April 17.
Today, we are excited to announce the Sultan CARE Campaign. CARE stands for Community Action, Resilience, and Engagement. The CARE Campaign is an effort to raise awareness of community needs and encourage action by residents to support those in need during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“The Sultan community truly cares for each other, which inspired the name of this campaign,” said Sultan Mayor Russell Wiita. “I am excited about this effort and welcome my neighbors and fellow community members to join us in helping those in need and supporting each other through this difficult time.”
The main focus of the campaign will be a food drive in partnership with the Volunteers of America and City to support the Sultan Food Bank. Residents will place donations in a plastic bag on top of their garbage cans on their pickup day during the weeks of April 20th and 27th. ECEAP staff will go ahead of the City garbage truck to pickup donations left on the cans.
“The Sultan Food Bank is experiencing a steep increase in the number of families and individuals we serve due to the COVID-19 crisis,” said Sky Valley VOA Director Lynsey Gagnon. “We are looking to the community now more than ever for help to stock our shelves with needed items so that no one will have to go without food during this difficult time. I’m so grateful for the City of Sultan’s support in this endeavor and I believe that we can get through this, but we are asking the community to help us get there.”
If you are able and are out grocery shopping, remember to pick up a couple of extra items to donate. The most needed items at the Food Bank are Diapers (sizes 4, 5, 6), tuna and/or canned chicken, soup, peanut butter and jelly, pasta and pasta sauce, boxed meals, canned fruits, and canned vegetables.
Garbage days will also correspond with spirit days for everyone in the community to participate in.

We hope the Sultan community will engage in the CARE Campaign with enthusiasm and have some fun while helping out our Sultan Food Bank. We will be sending out reminders through social media throughout the next 2 weeks to remind everyone about the donation and spirit days.
Throughout the CARE Campaign, we also encourage everyone to make sure to call family/friends they haven’t spoken to in a while or check in on a neighbor that lives alone.
The Sultan Community has done such a great job through the Coronavirus pandemic and we are hoping the CARE Campaign will build on that spirit to encourage Community Action, Resilience, and Engagement.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and have fun.
