Northshore School District issued the following announcement.
In July, the District was selected to receive a $75,000 grant from Safeway and Haggen’s Nourishing Neighbors Foundation. This grant is meant to provide meals to children and families during the summer. This additional funding is critical to help support serving meals during this unprecedented health crisis.
Continuing to provide access to nutrition has been a priority in Northshore throughout the pandemic. The District is scheduling pick-ups for meal packs, which are intended to cover a week at a time. Each pack includes seven breakfasts, seven lunches and one gallon of milk. In just the first two weekly pick-ups, the District served more than 33,000 meals to children.
“While we have committed to maintaining access to meals during this exceptionally challenging time, we were fortunate to be awarded this generous gift that will help us meet the increased demand for food assistance in our community,” said Northshore Director of Food Services Juliana Fisher. “We are grateful to be part of the Nourishing Neighbors Family. The support, partnership, and generosity are truly making a difference.”
