Snohomish County Fair Park staff and volunteers are hosting a countywide drive-thru food drive at the Evergreen State Fair Park on Thursday, Aug. 27, according to a county press release.
Park staff decided to hold the food drive as a substitute event for the Evergreen State Fair that was canceled due to COVID-19.
The event will be held at 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the West parking lot of the Evergreen State Fair Park in Monroe.
Attendees are invited to decorate their vehicles in County Fair inspired themes to compete in a contest. Prizes include a Family four pack of Fair admission and Carnival tickets to the 2021 Evergreen State Fair.
Businesses are also encouraged to decorate their business vehicles to compete for a chance to win 12 fair admissions, according to the press release.
A variety of food trucks will be present at the event to provide take-out concessions.
All state health and safety guidelines for the coronavirus will be enforced at this event.
The Volunteers of America and the Snohomish County Food Bank Coalition will collect the items from this event and donate them to food banks across the county.
Suggested items for the food drive include: diapers, baby wipes, hygiene/toiletry items, canned vegetables/goods, pasta, peanut butter, rice, kitchen staples and other non-perishable goods. Monetary donations are especially encouraged, according to the press release.
“The need for access to good, free food is ever-present, and we don’t see that need ending for several more months, if not into 2021,” Jessica Moore, director of Development for Volunteers of America Western Washington, said in the press release. “Monetary donations are the best so that we have the flexibility to buy the food we need.”
