Snohomish County Parks brought in 6,209 pounds of food during its Aug. 27 one-day food drive at Evergreen State Fair Park, according to a press release from Snohomish County.
Not only did the food drive bring in over 6,200 pounds of food, but it brought in $4,275 in donation to help the Volunteers of America Western WA and the Snohomish County Food Bank Coalition.
"It has been a long-standing tradition on opening day of the Evergreen State Fair for staff to hold a food drive benefiting local area food banks," the county said in the press release. "Even though the Fair was canceled back in May due to COVID-19, the need for donations has never been greater. This special drive-thru event was a creative way for fair staff to honor their dedication to giving back while maintaining COVID-19 protocols. The timing is crucial, with many in need of food this year due to the pandemic."
During the pandemic, there were approximately 2.2 million Washington resident that were food secure at the peak of the virus. Many are still food insecure and these food donations will help the county be able to feed these families.
