Mill Creek Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 9.

On Saturday afternoon, Mar. 5th, around 3:00 PM, Mill Creek Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a possible shooting that had just occurred on a trail near the 4000 block of 133rd Street SE. Information provided to initial responding officers indicated that the victim may have been shot in the leg by a pellet gun while on a trail to the southwest of the call location. The victim told officers he would seek medical treatment on his own and declined offers from responding officers to call medical aid. Police interviewed an additional witness during their initial investigation.

Follow up investigation by officers indicated that a stroller that the victim was walking his child in at the time of the incident was also likely struck, due to the discovery of the presence of a small hole in the fabric material on the stroller. Officers canvased the area and located projectiles on the ground that appeared consistent with air gun pellet projectiles and were not believed to be consistent with a projectile fired from a firearm.

Detectives are following up on leads generated based on a previous report of a person shooting an air rifle in the backyard of nearby home. Officers have contacted the owner of the residence who is cooperating with the investigation.

Detectives are remaining in contact with the victim. At this time, the projectile has not been medically removed from the victim’s leg, however, police have requested that the projectile be retained as evidence.

As the investigation continues, detectives will be working on identifying the type of projectile and what it may have been fired from. Another focus of the investigation will be establishing information and evidence regarding whether the incident was intentional or negligent in nature. Establishing intent is a key element of establishing probable cause for any criminal charges.

Safety of our citizens and people in our community is the Mill Creek Police Department’s top priority. We know that the community shares this interest, and we are committed to working with our citizens to achieve safety. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Mill Creek Police Department Detective Sergeant Bart Foutch, 425-921-5755.
