Warning Moderate Flooding Projected this Weekend

WARNING MODERATE FLOODING PROJECTED THIS WEEKEND

The National Weather Service is projecting moderate flooding of the Skykomish river Friday night and Saturday morning. The river levels are projected toreach 17 feet at the river gauge in Gold bar.

As the water rises to 15 feet you can expect minor flooding of low pasture lands and low lying roads along the Skykomish river from Gold Bar to Monroe.

If the river level reaches 16 feet we will start to see impacts to Ben Howard road.

At 17 feet flood waters will cover numerous roads including First Street in Sultan, Ben Howard Rd, Index-Galena Rd, and Tualco Loop Rd in Monroe.

Staff has staged pallets of sand bags on Alder Avenue behind City Hall  and at Public Works (703 1st St.) for citizens to take as they need. We will also be monitoring the water to ensure the public is safe and are prepared to close roads as necessary. Please remember not to drive through flood water as you don’t know what the condition of the road is under the water.
